AJD Sawyers started the family business in 1970, with
one vehicle transporting meal throughout Northern Ireland.
In the early 1980’s, he realised there was a
niche in the market for chilled/frozen food distributors
and purchased his first trailer.
By 1991, Sawyers owned 6 lorries and 6 fridges and
was steadily growing. The decision was then made to
form a company; Sawyers Transport Ltd.
In 1995, economical factors forced the company to
make significant changes. This took the form of relocation
to chilled premises in Moy, Co. Tyrone and the decision
to focus intently on providing a premium level of groupage
service to the chilled/frozen food sector.
This proved to be a success as the next 10 years saw
the purchase of the entire Charlemont Industrial Estate
property and the modernisation of the despatch and cold
store areas, which now offer state
of the art warehousing facilities.
To date the company has a fleet of approximately 100
high specification refrigerated trailers, in addition
to its fleet of tractor units and curtainsider trailers. |
